Youth and College Polo Action in North Texas
December 1 and 2 kicked off Interscholastic and Intercollegiate polo season in north Texas. Prestonwood Polo Club hosted qualifying games for both, with their home team Prestonwood winning 14-3 over Culver Academy on Saturday and staying up to play Texas Tech men’s intercollegiate polo team. Andrew Garcia, a senior at Southlake, Vaughn Sebastian Miller, 8th grader at Highland park Middle School and Ronnie Puentes, Freshman at Little Elm played first game. Vaughn was replaced at half time of second game due to a recent football injury to his knee acting up, by 7th grader Javier Cortez for the second half. Prestonwood won over Tech 11-8.
Sunday found the Prestonwood Team alternating Jr. Varsity players Vance Miller, 6th grader at McCulloch Intermediate School in Highland Park and John Hand, 10th grader at Highland Park High School into the match against Culver, and won, again. Women’s intercollegiate action followed with Texas Christian University playing Texas Tech women’s polo team. TCU women defeated Texas Tech 9-2.
Prestonwood Polo Club owner and 2 goal handicap polo player, Vaughn Miller is Coach of the Prestonwood Interscholastic and TCU polo teams. TCU women Amber Pacheco, Dani Cruse, Julia Ancey, Lauren Dungan and Sina Burmeister are training hard to win Regionals in Houston and go all the way to nationals, being held in San Diego this year. Prestonwood interscholastic has won the required two games to qualify for regionals, where they too hope to win it all and advance to nationals. So far, both teams look to be off to a good start!
