Caset scores twelve times in Talandracas win; Sommelier edges Murus Sanctus, 11-10

It was a big day for 9-goaler Sapo Caset as he scored twelve of his team’s 13 goals in as Talandracas (Edouard Carmignac, Guillermo Caset, Pelon Stirling and Jack Hyde) handed Monterosso (Alessandro Bazzoni, Ignacio Toccalino, Santiago Toccalino and Matt Perry) their first loss of the 2017 Jaeger-LeCoultre Gold Cup,13-10, at the Cowdray Park Polo Club Wednesday afternoon.
Caset scored the first goal of the game on a 60-yard penalty conversion and added a second from the field for the early 2-0 Talandracas advantage. Santiago Toccalino got Monterosso on the scoreboard with the final goal of the chukker to trail, 2-1.
Caset’s third goal of the game extended the Talandracas lead to two goals, 3-1, when Monterosso stormed back. Santiago Toccalino scored three consecutive goals from the field, adding a 60-yard penalty goal to close out the period on top of Talandracas, 5-3.
Santiago Toccalino’s sixth goal of the afternoon had Monterosso leading by three goals, 6-3, before Talandracas responded. Caset converted a 30-yard penalty shot, 6-4, with Monterosso team captain, Alessandro Bazzoni, scoring to make it 7-4 at the end of the first half.
A reorganized Talandracas team took immediate control of the game in the fourth. Goals from Caset and Hugo Lewis had Talandracas within a goal of the lead, 7-6, in the opening minutes of play. Caset added two more goals from the field and a 30-yard penalty goal were supported by shutout defense as Talandracas took the lead, 9-7.
Caset added two more goals in the fifth while Monterosso was held scoreless for the second consecutive chukker. The fifth period ended with Talandracas in control of the game by a four-goal margin, 11-7.
Matt Perry’s first goal of the day was followed by a goal from Ignacio Toccalino, bringing Monterosso to within two goals of the lead, 11-9. Caset countered with a 30-yard penalty conversion and a goal from the field to make it 13-9 with time running out. Ignacio Toccalino scored the final goal of the game but Monterosso came up on the short end of a 13-10 Talandracas victory.
Caset led all scoffing on the day with 12 goals. Lewis scored the team’s only other goal. Santiago Toccalino was high-scorer for Monterosso with six goals. Ignacio Toccalino added two goals with Perry and Bazzoni scoring single goals in the loss.
The victory improved the Talandracas record to 2-1 while Monterosso fell to 1-1.
Sommelier 11, Murus Sanctus 10
Sommelier (George Hanbury, Juan Gris Zavaleta, Fred Mannix and Alec White) leveled their record at 1-1 with an 11-10 win over Murus Sanctus (Mia Cambiaso, Hilario Ulloa, Facundo Sola and Martin Podesta), breaking open a 4-4 halftime score for the victory.
Opening goals from Argentine 10-goaler Hilario Ulloa and Facundo Sola gave Murus Sanctus the early 2-0 lead. Alec White scored the final goal of the first chukker to trail Murus Sanctus, 2-1.
Fred Mannix scored his first goal of the game in a contentious second chukker to tie the game at 2-2. Ulloa scored the only other goal of the period as Murus Sanctus escaped with a 3-2 edge.
The Sommelier attack became more aggressive in the third chukker. Martin Podesta’s goal was sandwiched between single goals from Mannix as the first half ended in a 4-4 deadlock.
Juan Zavaleta gave Sommelier their first lead of the day with the first goal of the second half, 5-4. Ulloa responded with a 40-yard penalty goal that had it all even at 5-5. Goals from White and Zavaleta ended the fourth period with Sommelier enjoying a two-goal advantage, 7-5.
Fifth period goals from Mannix and White were countered by goals from Sola and Ulloa as the two teams matched one another score for score. With one chukker remaining in regulation play, Sommelier held on to the two-goal lead, 9-7.
Sola cut the Sommelier lead back to a single goal in sixth chukker action, 8-8, but Sommelier responded. Mannix and Ulloa traded goals with the final goal going to Ulloa as Murus Sanctus came up on the short end of an 11-10 score.
Mannix scored six times for Sommelier. White added three goals and Zavaleta scored twice for the win. Ulloa’s six goals set the Murus Sanctus pace. Sola was credited with three goals and Podesta added a goal in a losing effort. The win boosted the Sommelier record to 1-1 while Murus Sanctus suffered their second loss in three games (1-2).
2017 Jaeger-LeCoultre Gold Cup competition continues on Thursday, July 6th with King Power (Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, Jimbo Fewster, Gonzalito Pieres and Facundo Pieres) meeting Habtoor (Mohammed Al Habtoor, Nicolas Pieres, Francisco Elizalde and Isidro Strada) in a noon match. El Remanso (Charlie Hanbury, Oliver Cudmore, James Beim and James Harper) is scheduled to face La Indiana (Michael Bickford, Nic Roldan, Agustin Merlos and Luke Tomlinson) in the second Gold Cup match of the day, at 2PM.
